I don't have pictures but Ella and I cut Gabe's hair on Friday. She asked if we could cut it in a mohawk and I didn't think that was a good idea but I let her help me anyway. We finally got him still so I could cut the back when Ella asks "uh, Mom...is he dead?" That pretty much sums up Gabe, if he ain't moving...something is wrong.

I have pictures to post but I am still recovering from the move! Gabe is able to do a few on command monkey tricks these days. He has mastered patty cake, touchdown and the lizard. He has to "want" to do it though. Sometimes he pulls them all out one right after another - usually for the right "treat". A first birthday is right around the corner...I can't believe it!

And it has gone by so fast! Gabe went to the doctor on Friday for his 9 month checkup. It was a family affair as Ella and Jude tagged along as well. Gabe is a little dude. His stats are:

Weight - 16lbs 7 ounces (2%)
Height - 27 1/2 inches (24%)
Head - 17 1/4 (12%)

Yes, that would be SECOND percentile for weight. He does not look that small though. I think it is because he is so active - he can crawl up the steps, onto the metal trashcan and up onto the desk...he is a monkey! Gabe loves his brother and sister and Ella is getting really good at helping with him. She put him in his car seat this morning for us. He also had his first camping excursion this weekend - there will be pictures to come. The only thing Gabe loves more than his sister and brother is...WATER. He loves to crawl in the shower and play. He showered with three different people this morning. He did NOT want to get out.

8 Months Old and Mother's Day

Gabe was 8 months old on the 10th which was was also Mother's Day - lucky for me because we actually took a picture before we left for church. What is Gabe doing at 8 months? Well, he can crawl (very well), pull up on just about anything, climb a baby gate halfway (can't get back down or actually go over), eat just about everything (desserts excluded), have a "bad cough" and his very most favorite thing to do....hang off of my pant leg crying to be picked up then hang off my hip....all day please. I struggle between finding it very annoying and inconvenient to knowing that it is going to be soooo short lived and soon he will be running around not really caring if I am in the room or not. Don't get me wrong, he is a sweet, happy baby - as long as someone is holding him! Sorry to diss you on your own page, Gabe but the whole time I have been updating your blog you have been crying hanging onto my pant leg....

We went to Memphis for Kingston's 4th birthday party. The kids were thrilled to swim in the indoor pool and knowing how much Gabe loves baths, we thought for sure he would love to swim. He did like the water but it would have been better if it were a little warmer. He enjoyed putting his feet in the hot tub more.

I sectioned Gabe off a piece of the back playroom this week at work only to go in there and find him standing...yep, standing....and holding onto the Dora house. the post from last night on the crawling. Yes, he was crawling but what I must update or revise would have to be undertones of joy in my typing. As I was very excited to see it, I soon realized the ripple effects of crawling. Mainly, the fact that when Jonathan picked him up to celebrate - he was holding ole Polly Pocket's sunglasses in his hand. Oh yeah, choking hazards abound at our house. I guess it is time for Barbie's shoes and Batman's bad guy guns/accessories to be sucked up in the vacuum...

The Easter Bunny forgot to get him much for Easter so he had to improvise with bottles - one full of unpopped popcorn and the other with oil/water and food coloring...he was happy and that is all that matters. What he is doing now:

Finally starting to go to bed with the big kids. He is easy to go to bed just like Jude and Ella were. He likes his paci, a blanket and his sound machine. He can to go to bed anywhere but does prefer to lay in a bed instead of being held to sleep. He loves his family, of course, and lights up when Ella gets in the car from school or when Jude is in the room. He can get in the crawl position but can move forward yet...we are working on that!

It is hard to get three kids to look at the camera...especially at 7:00 pm (bedtime)!

Jude is the ULTIMATE baby entertainer. If anyone needs to use him, he is for hire...you will NOT be disappointed!

Not really sure what the fuss is about and not really sure he likes it...until Jude starts his routine.

Gabe is 6 months old today. My how the time has flown!! Having a baby in the world of dentistry is actually pretty funny. It is easy to keep up with how old he is because starting last week patients have been coming in asking about the "new baby". They had come in for their 6 month cleanings a day or so before he was due and now they are coming back 6 months later. The next time they are there he will be A YEAR?!

We had a great dinner with Carmen, Phillip, Landon, Lofton and Dr. Jones. Afterward, we came home and celebrated with some Maggie Moo cupcakes...The Griffin family loves to celebrate! Jonathan broke a candle in "half" for the occasion. Happy Half Birthday Gabe - you have survived your first six months with a big sister AND a big brother (not to mention us as your parents)!

5 months and woozle hair

Donald Trump hair or as Brooke calls it a frullett (front mullett) - whatever you want to call it, Gabe has it. It might be cute on a girl with a bow but it looks pretty silly on him. I have already trimmed the hair over his ears but the comb over is next. Here is a last look AND he is 5 months old today. Some highlights are he can modified "crawl". He will stick his head into the ground then lift his torso off the ground and push with his legs. It is very effective for him. It only happens if he is set down on the ground long enough to get mad. This has not happened in the past two days as Nana and Pepaw have been here! Everyday we notice more similarities between Gabe and Ella - that will be a post for another day...right now the woozle is calling.

Four month visit

All started off well. I got Gabe in for his 4 month "well" visit the same day Ella had her 6 year old "well" visit. It was uneventful - you know, coloring in the lobby (Ella, not Gabe), Ella was weighed, had her eyes checked, ears checked - then the wheels fell off. Ella started crying, Gabe started crying and Dr. Keith came in. A flashlight and about 5 minutes revealed Gabe had an ear infection and Ella had strep throat! So much for being well. The stats for 4 months are: weight 13lbs 3 ounces (15%); height 25 3/4 inches (77%); head circumference 16 (12%). The magic paper says we can start him on cereal and DO NOT leave baby unattended on a bed, couch or around water...too late, he fell off the bed on Tuesday.

The time is here - Gabe has begun being semi mobile...he can roll over. He showed us his new skills today. He does not spend much time laying on the floor but he did today and he rolled back to stomach then stomach to back. Ella and Jude were amazed and cheering him on the whole time. Gabe had a great two month check up. He weighed in at 10 pounds and 14 ounces (28%) and 23 1/4 inches long (61%) - which makes him a string bean. He has the smallest head of the three - 15 1/4 inches which puts him in the 21%. Although I must say that his appointment was upstaged by Ella. She went too and has strep throat!

Gabe spent the majority of his trip in the room with Nana. He did go crab hunting (in his habitat) as well as taking a trip to the beach for pictures. We went out to eat alot but he never left the comfort of his sling. I was a little messy a couple of nights and he had lettuce or something on his face one night when I took him out and the other night it was ketchup! Overall he is safe in there though!

1 week
1 month

Friday was significant for us for two reasons. First, Gabe was one month old! Second, it was our first family of five road trip. I can't believe how fast the first month has gone by. Things are pretty much the same with Gabe. He is awake a little more frequently but still sleeps most of his day away. He still loves his Gabe habitat as Marilyn calls it (which is his sling that I too love). He is finally going to bed at a decent hour (around 9-10) and is waking once in the night around 3 and then is getting up with the rest of the crew about 6:30-6:45. It didn't take him that long to fall into our schedule. He is even sleeping in with us at the beach. I hope I don't mess everything up...that brings me to the first road trip. He did great. Actually everyone did great. He didn't start crying until we were about 30 minutes from our condo. We stopped about 45 minutes outside of White House for our first bathroom break (which I will detail on the Griffin family blog for anyone actually interested). Overall the trip here was smooth. I hope the trip home is as good.

Last night Mimi, Pops, Aunt Jamie and Kingston came for a quick visit. We had a little dinner, snuggled with Gabe and took some pictures. Gabe thoroughly enjoyed himself and the big kids had fun with Kingston and checking out the goods Mimi & Pops brought as well as what Kingston brought them. Thanks for the visit!!

Three week checkup

Gabe had his appointment exactly three weeks from birth. He was up to 8 pounds and 12 ounces and was 21 inches long. I can't remember the head circumference but he has an itty bitty head and it was only in the 14th percentile when the rest of him was around the 43rd percentile...MUCH smaller that Jude and Ella's big heads!

Where has a week gone?

I think I know - it has been consumed with a hospital stay, doctor visits on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (and one to come on Thursday), sleepless nights, diaper changes, feedings, managing a 5 and 3 year old (which Nana - and Carmen - have been doing most of) and most importantly falling in love with our new baby boy. All of it has been pretty great actually. I am not as tired as I thought I would be. Oddly enough, I enjoy getting up and holding Gabe. I think it has alot to do with the fact that I don't have to get Ella up, dressed, lunch packed and off to school. My mom is pretty much taking care of the day to day job of the older two. I have taken over 250 pictures in the last week! I am currently taking the time to load them. Dr. appointment weights were as follows:

Monday - 7 pounds 12 ounces
Tuesday - 7 pounds 14 ounces
Wednesday - 8 pounds

He is almost back up to birth weight - I guess at this rate he will be there tomorrow.

Gabe was supposed to go back to the doctor tomorrow (Tuesday) for a follow up on his jaundice. He was looking really yellow yesterday so I called this morning to see if he could come in earlier. Parent's intuition was correct and his levels were high so they have ordered him a light to sleep under. The guy from the Med delivery place called and said he was bringing it tonight (it is now 8:50 and he is not here yet). I will update as to how the sleeping in a tanning bed goes! On a side note, he weighed 7 pounds and 12 ounces (still more than my other two - in fact a pound more than Jude or Ella when they came home from the hospital).

The kids "helped" me bathe Gabe last night. As most things in our house are, it was an adventure. Many questions were asked and lots of help was given. Of course, the pictures are still not uploaded to my computer but will post when I have some! As for sleep last night, it was MUCH better.

To say our first night home was sleepless is putting it mildly. Apparently big Gabe is used to sleeping with lights on and lots of noise because when it got quiet at our house, there was NO rest. As most moms with new babies do, I had been keeping a log of when he ate (as well as when I am to take my meds). It is as follows:

You may be thinking that in between there it is possible that there was sleep. Oh no, the time lapse accounts for eating, changing, hiccups, snorting and rooting. He didn't cry, he was just awake. We are hoping tonight will be different as Jonathan is going to work tomorrow and I am on my own. So, maybe I should have said I am hoping tonight will be different.... Gabe is keeping me company as I type but looks as if he might drift off!

We are home!

We came home around noon or so today. The leaving story was that Jonathan went to get the car so he could pull up to the door and get me and Gabe. He parked the car and ran back up the parking garage where he had been parked. He didn't even say anything to me. Connie was putting Gabe in the car and Randy was loading up the back. The nurse and I just stood there wondering what in the world Jonathan was doing. He came back and said that he thought he had run over a bottle so he went back up there to see. There was no bottle but he found a ten dollar bill and a quarter. I am surprised he didn't buy Gabe a lottery ticket on the way home! We took his picture with his "first money".

When we got home Mimi and Jude had made a "Welcome Home" sign for the house. Jude was asleep but woke up in excitement of seeing baby Gabe. Of course everyone (Jude and Ella) had to take turns holding him until he got hungry. (His eating is a story in and of itself and has actually produced several funny comments/stories in our house in only a matter of hours but I will save that for later.) Coming home pics to come....

Now that my head is beginning to clear...not that my head has ever been clear but that is besides the point...I can remember something funny that Ella said after Gabe was born. First, she was the "chosen" one to announce that Gabe was a boy to the waiting room. Jonathan let her come into the recovery room (she was first), see him and then I told her that she had a brother. At that point he didn't have a middle name and I am not sure if we told her what his first name was either. At any rate, Ella made the announcement then I stayed in the recovery room for another couple of hours. We finally made our way upstairs to our room where we told everyone his name. Ella then asked me 2 questions. I can't remember the first but the second was "can I just call him Matthew?".

As most know, Gabe Matthew was born today (September 10th, 2008) at 7:50 am. He was our biggest baby weighing in at 8 pounds and 2 ounces. He also was 20.5 inches long. His due date was 9/20 and he was delivered by c-section. His sister, Ella - 5 and a half, was born 4 days after her due date and weighed 7 pounds and 6 ounces. His brother, Jude - 3 years, was born 12 days early and weighed 7 pounds and 5 ounces. He is also the only baby with hair, which was curly but straightened out when bathed. As with both of our children, we didn't know Gabe was a boy until he was born. As ALSO with both our other children, we thought he was going to be the opposite sex...we are really bad with that!

We are looking forward to sharing Gabe's first year with everyone!
